Saamia Ahmed is a distinguished Pakistani visual artist, educator, researcher, and cultural activist whose work bridges the rich traditions of South Asian art with contemporary artistic practice. Based in Lahore, she has played a significant role in advancing art education, historical research, and heritage preservation while maintaining an active studio practice that reflects the evolving cultural landscape of Pakistan. An Associate Professor at the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, Saamia has contributed extensively to academic leadership, serving as the Coordinator of the MA (Hons) Visual Art Programme, Coordinator for International Artist Residencies, and Incharge of the NCA Archives. Through her teaching and mentorship, she has guided generations of emerging artists, encouraging critical inquiry while fostering a deep appreciation for traditional artistic techniques. Her artistic practice encompasses oil painting, watercolor, and miniature painting, exploring themes of memory, urban transformation, cultural identity, and human relationships. Alongside numerous exhibitions in Pakistan, her work has been presented internationally, including exhibitions in the United States and inclusion in the internationally recognized Imago Mundi Collection. As a curator, she has also contributed to important cultural initiatives, including co-curating Zenana Act 2 during Lahore Biennale 03, a project examining gender, space, and environmental change through contemporary artistic perspectives. Beyond the studio, Saamia Ahmed is deeply committed to preserving Pakistan's artistic heritage. As a doctoral researcher focusing on Lahore's historic wall paintings and a founding member of the Collective Research on Mughal Lahore (CROML), her scholarship documents and safeguards the region's architectural and artistic legacy.
