Zarin Gul: Pioneering New Media in Pakistani Art
Zarin Gul is a distinguished contemporary Pakistani visual artist, educator, and researcher whose multidisciplinary practice has played a significant role in expanding the boundaries of contemporary art in Pakistan. Widely recognized as one of the country's pioneering female video artists, she has gained recognition for her exhibitions both nationally and internationally, including major showcases at IAG Gallery, ArtNext Gallery, Ejaz Gallery, FMR Art Space, and other leading contemporary art platforms in Pakistan as well as in the USA, UK, France, Germany, Iceland and South Korea. Her significant multidisciplinary artworks are in a permanent collections of Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA, Pakistan), Microcinema International (USA), Recontres Paris Berlin meetings festivals (France/Germany) and Haegeumgang Theme Museum (South Korea). She works across painting, printmaking, photography, animation, installation, and digital media, creating thought-provoking works that explore culture, identity, gender, memory, and the relationship between tradition and technology. A graduate of the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1993, Zarin Gul later completed her MA in Graphic Communication from Kingston University, United Kingdom, in 2004. Her international academic exposure enriched her visual language while maintaining a deep connection to Pakistan's cultural heritage. Alongside her artistic practice, she has dedicated herself to art education and currently serves as a faculty member at Fatima Jinnah Women University, mentoring emerging generations of artists and researchers. She has also contributed to cultural preservation initiatives, including the Gandhara International Residency Program, where she explored the dialogue between ancient civilizations and contemporary artistic practices.
